We will have a quiz on Moday the 12th and our last test of the quarter on the 21st, a Wednesday. A study guide and video lesson for the test will be available this weekend. For the quiz you need to know:
What the Articles of Confederation were (first written Constitution) and what its weaknesses were (no president, no power tax, no central government). After Shays' Rebellion, when farmers and soldiers rioted, country knew it was time for a change. NJ and Virginia Plans (Virgina Plan favored large states, based voting on state population (Great Compromise based House of Representatives on this model) and NJ Plan favored each state getting same amount of votes (Great Compromise based Senate on this model). Constitutional Convention (What is ratification) Debate between Federalists and Anti-Federalists (Federalists supported Const. and wanted a strong central or national government) Anti-Federalists worried that states would lose power and peoples' rights would not be protected, they demanded a Bill of Rights be added before ratification.

October is in full swing and we now have under three weeks left in the first quarter. Some of you still need to do the Preamble, and if stagefright is an issue please let me know and we can work out an alternative recital. I am posting a video. I think it may be helpful to begin a lesson with you watching a video of the material beforehand. I will be creating the videos. The first is a review, this was my first attempt at making a lesson video and I promise to improve. Please let me know if it is helpful. Guided notes from last week's PowerPoint.
Also, I have large copy projects available to parents who need service hours. This works well if you have access to a commercial copy machine at an office. This does not work well if you plan to do it from your home printer or Office Depot. Let me know if you are interested. Thank you!
I am headed off to Orlando for a Social Studies teachers' convention (Woo-Hoo) where I will be learning to become a better teacher and learning more about teaching Civics. You should never stop learning in life! Our new chapter deals with The Constitution. We begin with the Articles of Confederation and work through the Constitutional Convention. We will also be covering the structure of The Constitution and some major themes. Our test will be around October 21 and a quiz should be sometime around October 12. I am attaching two useful summaries of the chapter. I have also updated Quizlet. The students who have not recited the Preamble still need to do so, I have not forgot.
